Visit to Slot Loevestein
(Family event ), (18/05/2003)

It turned out to be a Dordrecht family outing, which was fine as we are quite used to spending time together. We won’t take it too personally that nobody else wanted to join us!

We are probably the only ones who haven’t been able to go on the previous visits to the castle, so it was nice to go this time and to get out of Dordrecht and be a tourist for the day.

After a few days of dull and dreary weather, we were blessed with a lovely sunny day which was a bonus.

The ferry ride across to the castle was a good start to the outing and the kids seemed quite excited by it, luckily there were not too many other passengers on board so we didn’t have to worry if the children ran riot, in fact they were really good.

We arrived at the castle just before it opened which gave us a few minutes to grab a quick caffeine fix to get us through the rest of the day, (essential for the mums!), and then made our way to the entrance.

The castle tour was interesting and good fun, probably more so for the older kids, however our one year old was getting a bit restless and it was difficult to keep her quiet whilst the tour guide was speaking.

It certainly tested my Dutch to the limit and was also a good exercise workout with all those stairs to climb.
Afterwards we had a bite to eat outside the castle and let the kids run around for a while and we then headed back to the ferry.

I think we would all agree that it was a nice relaxing day out, well as relaxing as it can be with four children in tow!
