Pancake day
(Kids club ), (09/02/2005)

An afternoon of pancakes and games was organised at the Scout Hut in Gorinchem, the previous day being Pancake Day in the UK. Actually since living in Holland, 'Pancake Day' is virtually every day in our household because the kids love them. It is still hard to convince some children to try them with lemon and sugar on like we always did, but instead they prefer 'hagelslag' and 'poeder suiker' (becoming very Dutch!)

Some of the kids were doing painting and making a puppet and others were playing board games or just running around. They all seemed to like playing with the wooden castle that stood in the corner of the hall. I was introduced to a board game that I haven’t seen before; one of the boys had obviously played it many times before and was very good at it.

The kids then sat at the table and enjoyed eating pancakes with a variety of toppings. One of the moms had made some little cakes with cream on top for the kids to eat because it was her son’s 2nd birthday. The Mums enjoyed a different cake which she had also made which was very yummy, as are all her creations. Not forgetting the little meringues.

A few of the children had a go at tossing the pancake in the frying pan and ended up with it on their faces and the others continued to run around, full of energy after the sugar boost of cakes etc!!
