(Mince Pie) morning
(Parents and Toddlers ), (22/12/2004)

On Wed 22nd December there was a presentation about how we celebrate Christmas back home in the UK in the Ouderkamer in Gorinchem Oost. It was arranged in conjunction with 'Arkelstad' who are trying to promote their new Ouderkamers. It was an ideal opportunity for ICPC to promote itself and for us to take a look at the facilities on offer.

Everyone was sitting round a table which was laid full of delicious mince pies, Christmas pudding, Christmas cake and sausage rolls. There was a lovely spread so that we could all sample typical food that we eat back home at this time of year. There were about 8 Dutch ladies present, and 5 ladies from ICPC.

One of the ICPC ladies started by describing how her family celebrated Christmas time, and then the rest of us explained how we typically celebrated with our families, and our colleagues at work. Following this we had a tea and coffee break and began to sample the food. Especially delicious was the warm Christmas pudding with fresh cream. It was a real treat for me, as I would otherwise miss out this year by staying here in Holland for Christmas, when usually I go back to the UK.

Afterwards the Dutch ladies told us about their own Christmas festivities. There were two ladies present who originated from Malaysia and Turkey so they who went into detail about their own traditions. There was a lot of interactive discussion and a thoroughly enjoyable time was had by everyone.

ICPC agreed it was a cosy venue and we’ll be hosting several of the 'Parent’s and Tots' sessions there starting in the New Year.
