Visit to Sinterklaashuis
(Kids club ), (28/11/2004)

On a rather damp Sunday morning at the end of November we made our way to Dordrecht to visit Sinterklaas in his holiday house here in Holland. We said hello to 2 ICPC families at the front of the queue, and then went to wait our turn at the back of the queue. Although we had to wait for about half an hour in the drizzle, the very active group of Zwarte Pieten outside kept us entertained and fed with 'pepernoten'. They were probably the best Zwarte Pieten I have seen very funny, except when they kept picking on certain parents (who did not know all the words!) to go and sing Sinterklaas songs for the crowd..! Eventually we could go inside.

The boys enjoyed themselves in the bakery, decorating cookies, and of course in the Gym, climbing and jumping on everything. The 'pakjes kamer' was also interesting, but one of the boys quickly decided that at least some of the parcels were not real! At that point we moved on to the refreshment room for coffee, before going to see Sinterklaas himself. Both boys were in awe as they sat on his knee and spoke to him very quietly! We took some photographs, and unfortunately then it was time to leave, as there was still a big queue of children waiting to visit Sinterklaas.
